Upon successful
completion of a Reference Interview or one-on-one interaction with a
librarian, students will be able to do one or more of the following:

Identify and communicate the need for information.

Locate signage, maps, and pathfinders to identify and
use the library’s collections and services.

Formulate searches by author, title, or keyword in
the library’s online catalog or another database and compile
relevant resources.

Upon successful
completion of a Basic Library Instruction Session or Subject-specific
Instruction Session, students will be able to do one or more of the
following:
-
Select a focused topic and construct strategies for
obtaining needed information using relevant keywords and controlled
vocabulary terms.

Perform searches and interpret the results in the
library’s online catalog and subscription databases.
-
Evaluate validity of information gathered using
criteria such as relevance, authority, currency, and peer review
process.

Differentiate between primary vs. secondary and/or
popular vs. scholarly resources.
-
Cite sources properly according to appropriate style
guide and summarize the ethical and legal reasons for doing so.
