Student Learning Outcomes

 

Chemistry

 
Students completing courses in Chemistry will:
 
  1. Demonstrate the successful development of analytical and conceptual thinking skills as well as written and oral expression skills in the evaluation of chemical principles 
  2. Using critical thinking, recognize patterns in chemistry that integrate ideas and reduce the need to learn many individual facts
  3. Apply the principles of chemistry to make informed choices about the design, construction, execution, analysis, and interpretation of chemical experiments
  4. Apply proper procedures and regulations for safe handling and use of chemicals in the laboratory
  5. Communicate chemistry knowledge and the results of laboratory work to chemists and non-chemists
  6. Utilize computers for graph construction, interpretation, and statistical analysis
  7. Utilize library searching and computers to obtain information about a topic, chemical substance, chemical technique, or issues relating to chemistry
  8. Apply the process by which chemistry investigates the world around us
  9. Prepare students to participate in our technological society through exposure to reading and writing about science and chemistry topics
  10. Prepare students for advanced studies in the physical and life sciences
